How to promote forums ?

October 6th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in SEO

My friend email me last night,

Hey dude. I have a question. How can you promote a forum, when is at the beginning ? I mean, how can i make people interested in posting on my forum ?

Thanks.

And this is my answer to his question. Any of the following would help:

* Getting reciprocal or one-way links from relevant sites or blogs
* Use one of the forum signature services here at DP to advertise a link to your site
* Create an article about the subject of your forum with a link to your site at the bottom, and submit it to 200+ directories
* Answer some questions relevant to your forum at Yahoo Answers with a link to your forum
* Create a blog relevant to your forum that promotes your forum – make sure it is optimized for the search engines
* Purchase traffic from one of the services here at DP – it is cheap, and will usually get 1-5% to post something if legitimate (non-bot traffic)
* Offer to pay people to post to your forum – make an offer of $1 per 10 posts, or $5.00 per 50 posts. Investing $20 in some posts can make the difference between people staying and leaving…nobody wants to hang on at a ghosttown

There are a few ideas for his forum – hopefully some are useful and best luck to you!

    Hi Everyone,
I have a carpet cleaning business in Houston,TX that was doing pretty good until the economy went bad, and with it my clientele. I have a website for the business but I dont
know what I have to do the get it to show up in a search. Right now it’s somewhere in the yahoo/google netherworld (LOL).

Is there someone on here that can give me some insight or know of anyone that coud give me insight on how I can get my local website on the front
page of a Yahoo or Google search to increase my business without it costing me 5 or 10k $$$? If so please share with me.

I thank you and my hungry over-eating children thank you.

    thanks,

First, you should understand what type of individuals do you want to attract and then look at what characteristics do they have. What are their interests, etc. That will help lead you to where you should be focusing your efforts.
Second, you should talk to the current members. Why are they members? Focus on what you are doing right rather than what you are doing wrong and then expand upon it.
Later, Increase the topic of your website, create backlinks and join other forums, blogs, bookmarking sites to make it more familiar in search engine
