Choosing good hosting services may be a bit complicated especially if you have no experience yet. And when looking at the internet, you realize that there are literally thousands of web hosting companies out there for you to choose from and this number is increasing on a daily basis. It’s like going through the yellow pages trying to find burger restaurants. There are lots of them. Unfortunately you can’t judge their quality with only saw their price or their package.

To choose the one that’s best for your needs, it will help if you at least have an idea of the different types of web hosting services. Here is some of the most common hosting type:

Data storage concept

1.    Free web hosting
As its name, it’s totally free. You may to use this service if you don’t want to spend money for your blogging activity or you are just starting and just want to have an experience. Since it’s free, of course you can’t expect so much feature, bandwidth and space from it.

2.    Shared web hosting
This is the most common type of web hosting. In this type hosting, you are actually sharing the same server with several clients of your hosting company. There may be twenty or hundreds of clients depend on your hosting decision. Since you are sharing the same server with several websites, the cost is of course cheaper. However, with the very same reason, it may not be the best for you because there will be a limitation for software and resource.

3.    Virtual Private Servers
Virtual Private Servers also referred to Virtual Dedicated Server or VDS is a method of partitioning a physical server computer into multiple servers such that each has the appearance and capabilities of running on its own dedicated machine. Each VPS can run its own full-fledged operating system and software, and each VPS can be independently rebooted. Actually you share the server with a number of clients but with this method you have an allocated portion of the resources that you can managed by your self. However, the cost for this hosting type is more expensive then shared web hosting but you have full control of your own hosting.

4.    Dedicated Servers
Unlike the other type, dedicated server allow you to use all server resource for your own business including choice of operating system, hardware, software etc. Server administration can usually be provided by the hosting company as an add-on service. However, it’s more expensive than the other type because you not shared all the cost of leasing the server. It also requires technical knowledge or expertise to operate it.

Nowadays there are new types for webhosting it called green hosting. Green hosting is great for you who care about saving the earth, since green hosting use alternative energy to power their data centers.

Remember that what’s best for you depends on your needs and financial capability. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive or the most powerful feature.
